The GunRunners joint investigative project — which includes Frontline, the Center for Investigative Reporting and the Investigative Reporting Project — tracks the entire distribution chain of illegal arms smuggling in an effort to understand the interconnected nature of the gun business and how limited oversight and enforcement by government agencies keeps the cycle going. In this case the chain stretches thousands of miles, from the Romanian factory where these weapons aremade to the cities of Culiacan, Sinaloa and Cuernavaca, Morelos, where these weapons wreak havoc and, ultimately, death.
