About the Role

InSight Crime is seeking a proactive, organized, and creative intern to support the daily operations of our Communications and Social Media team. This role is ideal for someone interested in digital communications, journalism, NGOs, audience engagement, and content creation within a fast-paced editorial environment focused on organized crime and security issues across the Americas.

The intern will contribute to strengthening the organization’s digital presence by supporting the publication and promotion of editorial and premium content across social media platforms, assisting with audience engagement initiatives, and helping improve internal workflows and communication processes.

This role works closely with the Social Media Strategist, Graphic Designers, Writers, Editors, and Creative Director.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Content Scheduling and Content Creation

  • Participate in daily editorial meetings to support social media planning and execution.
  • Schedule content across LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook in coordination with editors and writers through internal communication channels.
  • Create basic graphics, carousels/sliders, for social media using Canva templates and existing brand guidelines. 
  • Produce and support short-form video editing for reels and other social formats. 
  • Assist with internal communication materials like announcements and celebrations
  • Support the setup and scheduling of Mailchimp campaigns.
  • Assist with logistical coordination of private donor events.

    Website & SEO Support

    • Assist with basic website updates and multimedia content management.
    • Support simple SEO-related tasks and content optimization efforts.

    Data & Audience Insights

    • Help monitor social media performance metrics and contribute to regular reporting.
    • Conduct basic benchmarking and trend analysis.

    Requirements

    • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content formats.
    • Basic design skills using Canva or similar tools.
    • Ability to follow editorial processes and work with attention to detail.
    • Good written skills in English and or Spanish.

    Nice to Have

    • Experience editing short-form video content (Reels/TikTok style content).
    • Familiarity with Mailchimp, WordPress, and AI-powered productivity tools.
    • Basic understanding of SEO and audience analytics.
