BARRIO 18 / LATEST UPDATE EN

Extortion in Guatemala City is rife, and it is mainly carried out by street gangs and copycat groups. Shops, large businesses, and the public transport sector have all been affected by this crime.

This interactive map seeks to take the reader through a tour of the city, stopping at some of its most gang-ridden neighborhoods. The interactive map is also supplemented by a static map below.

*This investigation into extortion in the Northern Triangle was carried out as part of a joint project with the Global Initiative.
