InSight Semanal: seguridad y lucha contra las drogas, lecciones desde Latinoamérica

En nuestra sesión de Facebook Live del 3 de agosto, nuestro editor sénior Mike LaSusa conversó con la asociada sénior de la Institución Brookings, Vanda Felbab-Brown, sobre las lecciones aprendidas por Latinoamérica en su lucha de décadas contra la violencia asociada a los estupefacientes, y cómo se ajustan esas lecciones al contexto global.

La conversación se centró en su mayor parte en torno a los temas de la encarcelación masiva y las estrategias de control de droga desde la oferta, dos aspectos que InSight Crime ha cubierto ampliamente. LaSusa y Felbab-Brown analizaron las lecciones que pueden extraerse de los logros de seguridad en Latinoamérica —como los experimentos de varios países con marcos alternativos de políticas de drogas—, y los fracasos, como las "guerras contra la droga" en México y el modelo de vigilancia policial inspirado por el "punto álgido" en Rio de Janeiro. También trataron las experiencias de países de otras regiones, como Tailandia, Filipinas y Afganistán, y cómo esas lecciones podrían inspirar las políticas de seguridad en Latinoamérica.
