Authorities found the bodies of a mayor elect and two people who were accompanying him in Oaxaca just hours after they were abducted from a restaurant by armed men, La Crónica newspaper reported. Gregorio Barradas Miravete was elected mayor of the small town of Juan Rodríguez Clara, Veracruz. Next to his body were messages warning others not to work with the Zetas criminal syndicate. The Zetas intimidate and pay off local officials, as well as contribute to local campaigns, so politicians will do their bidding. The group is enmeshed in a bloody turf war along the Caribbean Coast with their former masters the Gulf Cartel, the Familia Michoacana criminal gang, and the Sinaloa Cartel.
